Being a black woman in this society is exhausting

I came to your post because I’ve been experiencing similar feelings of exhaustion as a black woman living in the States. Like you, I also work in a predominantly White and Asian role (Data Science) and I’m the only black person in my organization. I also live in a predominantly White and Asian building and I’m the only black resident, so I feel your words daily and deeply. The spectrum of violence, vitriol, and isolation is soul crushing, and no-one is built for that kind of constant trauma.

I wish I had words of comfort and hope to offer you, but I’m still trying to find them myself. But I hope it gives you some semblance of solidarity to know that you’re not alone in these feelings at all. I know it helps me, especially when it feels like society in general couldn’t give a flying fuck. I hope we can eventually get to a place that is gentle, empathetic, and kind to us.
