“I bike everywhere!” brags cyclist who can afford living downtown

This article is funny as it laughs at a particular person who doesn't know how complex the economics of life are for most people because he's a kid.

This whole scene is one factor is the high cost of rents in downtown Toronto.

I can't fault any 20-something wanting to live in the city. You want to party. You want to date people.

I moved to city young, had student debt, and rode a bike in part because I could not afford a car and pay downtown rent.

The burbs and small towns make sense when you are older and have kids. You're not going out as much anymore and you'd like to give your kids space to play.

Funny thing is that I grew up in a small town in Ontario where you could easily bike from one end to the next in about 25 minutes. About 50% of the residents there drive pickup trucks everywhere they go no matter how short the trip.
