You'll want more storage. Throw a mechanical hard drive or 1 TB hybrid in there as well.

For 1440p, I'd say R9 390 over the 970. The extra VRAM has a greater potential to be useful at a higher resolution. As long as the R9 390 is under 300mm you should be fine. The XFX one I picked up is 295mm.
