To bulk or not to bulk? Can those who have bulked give me some advice?

I second eating at maintenance for a month or two. Just giving yourself maintenance calories will help performance in the gym after cutting.

After a month or two decide if you still think you need to put on mass.

I am just finishing up a very small bulk, in that I went from 119lbs -> 126lbs or so. It doesn't seem like a lot, but I definitely feel stronger and my arms are more solid than they were a few months ago (I have triceps now...!). I'm excited to drop back down to 115-120 and see the difference in old progress photos.

Also if you're worried about it, I barely noticed the pounds in the mirror, and not at all in my clothes. 10 pounds or less to me isn't that much a difference on my frame, especially since it wasn't just fat I put on but muscle too. Shit, you can technically "gain" or "lose" 5 pounds in a couple days just from water weight and such. The only person that's noticed the difference is me with my scale.

With that said...I have no idea what your bf% is, but 135 at 5'2" is bordering the overweight category, and if you were to bulk you would be passing that. I'm not sure I'd recommend bulking until you were perhaps a bit closer to your goal weight. I think eating at maintenance is a good idea. If nothing else it's good to take a break. I ate at maintenance for a long time before I started eating a bit extra for muscle, just because it felt nice to be doing "nothing" except working out.

Oh and random addition but yes you can do cardio on a bulk. All a bulk means is you're eating above maintenance while lifting to help promote muscle growth. You can hit the treadmill all you want as long as by the end of the day you're reaching your caloric goals. And, a bulk doesn't have to mean kill yourself to eat more. For me it was having a filling protein shake after the gym so I got a couple hundred calories more than I would otherwise. Simple as that. That's why it's easy for people to "overdo it" bulking haha, it's not a free for all.
