Call of Cthulhu - E3 2017 Trailer

I'm a fan of H. P. Lovecraft's works but games that are based around his works just never follow his quality and tactful with intent writing . They greatly reduce the impact of the horrors that his stories tell of.

For example maddens could strike even the most calm and logical of men at the very sight of some of beings in his work. But it goes even farther where grown men can and will die of fright on the spot. I'm not talking about long exposures to these sights but even just a ever so brief encounter.

The descriptions of these creatures were written in a manner to give you a general idea but for you to fill in the details and think of the most horrific think your mind can come up with. Letting the reader startle themselves. After all who knows your fears better than you?

Sadly no video game can reproduce any of this and I think it's a disservice to associate them with his works due to this. There is nothing a game developer can make that can cause fright at very idea of such creatures. And any visual representation by artists will just grow dull over time, even if you are scared by the game that fear cannot last and that is simply not comparable to Lovecraft's works.
