A Chat on Titan 8/20

The only thing that's been on my mind today is why the hell does Norse Mythology have like, 10 sea gods? I mean really, guys? I get it, Scandinavia is a coastal area, but it's also cold and as far as I remember there's only one snow/ice goddess named Skadi, yet for the ocean/sea/seashore/etc. there's Njord, Aegir, Ran, Aegir and Ran's 9 daughters, the married couple whose names I've forgot that represent the scary and happy part of the sea, arguably Jormungandr, arguably Ullr, pretty much all of the Vanir gods and goddesses, and probably even more I haven't heard of.

For what purpose, ye olde Norse peoples? Couldn't you have stopped at Njord and Aegir, or even more conveniently merged them into one god alongside Ran? I mean I get it. Njord is a Vanir god, Aegir is a jotun, blah blah blah they represent the orderly and chaotic parts of the sea. Okay. But wouldn't it just be easier to combine them into one god? Maybe the god could be half jotun, half Vanir?

I'm just saying. This makes it really hard to pinpoint what Norse god Armin potentially could be based off of. I have almost all the other characters aside from Mikasa, Connie, and Historia...
