chloe’s departure

I think the key issue between the girls (not the moms) lies in what is meant by reaching out imo. In S5, the way the girls described the situation is not what we know happened (other moms have repeated what Christi said went down that day and I don’t see any reason for them to lie for Christi). For Chloe to see her friends going along with a false narrative was most likely hurtful. Not to mention the uncertainty she felt while she was going through all her doctor appointments and eventual surgeries to fix her silent sinus syndrome. They most likely sent her updates about the upcoming season and continued on like everything was normal. I don’t think they believed she was really not coming back until she didn’t show up because they wouldn’t have expected her at rehearsals outside the show since she was off the competition team. I think the moms knew though and shame on them for not fully explaining.

That interview they did in season 5 came off as really defensive especially Mackenzie’s and Kendall’s tone and body language. I don’t discount that Chloe stopped talking to them (I actually do believe Chloe cut contact once S5 began airing) but I think it was because the girls didn’t understand how she felt after that incident and Chloe interpreted that as them taking Abby’s side, which is totally valid. I understand the girls were getting hate for the rumors, but it was handled very poorly in that moment and the producers probably encouraged that behavior. The fact that Nia was silent the entire time was really awkward with what information we currently have and especially with how close her and Chloe remained during that time.

I don’t think they realized the severity of the situation and therefore probably reached out like everything was normal or maybe tried to downplay the incident to convince her to return, which was probably hurtful to Chloe. I think most of the girls struggled and continue to struggle recognizing and condoning Abby’s abuse. Some of them still stand by Gianna for example. Nia probably did reach out asking if she was okay after the fact, but the others just saw it as another dance mom fight with Abby and didn’t think much of it. Mackenzie even said during that interview that it was about Abby and her mom, but that is absolutely wrong. She directly insulted that girl’s physical appearance on national tv among a plethora of other things she did directly to Chloe. These girls were brainwashed into thinking that Abby’s behavior (and Gianna’s) was valid because it was against their mom’s and not them when she treated them this way leading towards conflicts with their own moms. Full on grooming right there.

The girls and moms have moved on and seem to be on decent terms now. Hopefully, all the girls look back on that situation with more maturity and understanding than when they were kids and in a toxic environment. However, I do 100% believe Cathy’s team when they said they were the ones to console them after the incident and that’s pretty messed up.
