CMV:Classism is America's biggest problem. Not Racism.

If you're just going to argue random points that have no relevance to the actual discussion, then I think you can to the wrong sub.

You're providing links that are relevant to the point I'm making, don't refute anything I've said, and actually I agree 100% with everything you just posted. It's not going to be a productive discussion if you spend your time looking up random websites to show me information I already agree with.

I'm not saying that the word classism doesn't exist. I'm not saying that Class Descrimination doesn't exist or has never existed anywhere in the world, and we're clearly not discussing classism in slave societies or feudal societies or anything like that. Seriously, what point do you think you're making right now?

Here's a quick recap:

  • I said that class wasn't a clearly defined concept in the US, at least compared to other countries.
  • And what you're talking about seems to be mostly about discrimination against the poor. That may be a part of classism, but it's certainly not the entire thing.
  • You claimed that there was some clear definition of classism in the US (which would imply a clear definition of class) that was endorsed by both sociological and philosophical academia.
  • I pointed out that there's no such singular definition of class or classism in the US, and that in fact there's a vibrant debate about whether class even exists in the US.
  • You then post a bunch of meaningless links showing that class and classism have existed in the world

You haven't said anything about how upper middle class americans discriminate against regular middle class americans. Or how extremely wealthy americans discriminate against americans who are merely very wealthy and educated, etc. If you're going to bring up classism there has to be a reason for it. As far as I can tell you're only interested in one "class", and that's poverty.

You've admitted that your description was made to be eye catching and not accurate. I'm simply pointing out that the choice you made to make your view sound interesting has undercut the actual view you're trying to defend. If you'd like to talk about any other aspect of class than poverty, maybe you should edit your original post to include that information?

Otherwise it seems like you're more interested in arguing over trivial definitions than actually talking about the view you claim to have.
