CMV: Us, the people of NSW, need to accept part of the blame for the out-of-control spread of the Delta Variant.

Compliance programs can't exist in a vacuum.

Individuals are responsible for coronavirus in NSW in the same sense that individuals are responsible for climate change by choosing to fly somewhere rather than catch a train.

While there is individual accountability there, there is an implicit understanding that broader society-level measures need to be implemented by governments to achieve the actually desired outcome. Only governments have access to the levers required to manipulate the system to achieve change for a whole community.

The whole notion of 'individual responsibility' solving coronavirus makes sense if it's for a population of ultra athletic (because they exercise 1hr every day like they should) ultra healthy (because they eat all of their leafy greens) ultra educated (because they all have the discipline to complete a masters) individuals. It's plainly not practical, and from a government it's outright negligent.

This comic comes to mind when people talk about individual blame for systemic problems. Sure, it's the murderers fault for killing someone, but if there wasn't a police force equipped with the tools and legislation to stop them I would be demanding scalps from my government.
