In college, thinking about dropping out and getting a real job/trade school.

If you look at my prior post - I'm in a similar position in the UK, Second year student, desire to go into teaching but hating my degree.

The flip side is in the UK we don't really have the same sort of trade schools, we have apprenticeships which are not only hard to come by but IIRC only at level 3 (not degree)

I think the question really comes down to if you can stick it out and do well in the academic situation.

The thing too many people are guilty of (myself included) in attending University is believing that just getting the degree is going to unlock doors.

In bygone years that may well have been the case, but now anyone willing to subject themselves to a mountain of debt can pretty much get a degree (Especially here) so the value of that commodity has substantially dropped and continues to drop further depending on how generic the degree is.

And so with that knowledge the discerning student would understand that it's all about making yourself marketable, and a degree that 1000's of other people have got isn't likely to cut the mustard so outside of University they would use the mountain of free time afforded to them to gather and develop skills that will put them in a position of being unique when they are in front of an interviewer.

This is why I am taking my TEFL qualification, learning Spanish, mechanics and web/graphics design so that if the degree does fall through I can travel the world for a bit and teach or try and get an entry level job in the IT field using previous qualifications - not for everyone but you get the idea.

So from my personal standpoint it has to come down to if you think you would make yourself more marketable by sticking with College OR if joining a more direct route such as a trade school would be better - giving you an easily identifiable and desired skill.

Both can be lucrative but Its easier at college to just cruise through and end up with a generic CV at the end.

A lot of it depends on if you would enjoy the trade too. Contrary to popular belief you can succeed in something you don't really enjoy/have a natural inclination for however it can be more challenging to do so.
