Is it common for girls to put guys into "hookup" and "would date" boxes, and not hook up with the latter, while hooking up with the former? Story inside.

I didn't want to have to go through and explain all the kino I did on NYE and everthing. I did say this:

So I'll just explain what I meant. When she (girl 1) walked in, I excitedly said "hey, you look great!" and hugged her. I made sure to have her catch me gazing at her a few times throughout the night. I got her to play beer pong on my team and pulled her over by her hand. I made sure to touch her lower back and hands at times throughout the game. Went, did my own thing, had some fun, talked to some other girls casually, etc. Later on I saw her friend (girl 2) who had been hinting her interest at me the night before. I saw there was an empty seat next to girl 1, with girl 1's phone on it. I asked girl 2 if I could sit there, so I did. Started chatting with her. Girl 1 came over and sat on my lap for a while because I stole her seat. Girl 2 started getting jealous and chatting me up. Both of them were chatting me up. I got up after a while, did my own thing again, talked to some more people. Asked girl 1 to play pong again, we did. Same thing as before. Game ends, I do my own thing for a while again. I see girl 1 standing watching a pong game, I go up behind her and grab her hips and pinch playfully. She turns and looks at me, I make eye contact with a smirk. I do it again later. 12pm rolls around, I go up to her and say "I got you at 12, you down?" She goes "sure!" then says "actually I was going to kiss (girl 3; her best friend for life) at 12 but I'll get you right after." She finishes with her, comes right over to me, and I kiss her. We go back for a kiss again. She says "ooh, you're a good kisser!" and comes back in for more, again.

I think the issue was this:

didn't want to put out because she wants to date you

But I came here to ask if this was really a thing girls do often. Because I completely come off as the dating type and I don't want it to get in the way of me getting laid.
