Coyote in Roxbury last Tuesday morning. Outside the fence, luckily. This was just before my dog noticed.

Be very careful with Coyotes and your dog. They're not befriending your dog should it appear that way. Coyotes will send in one to "befriend" a dog. The coyote will play with your dog, bringing the area of play further and further away from the house, away from you. Sure it looks fund to watch, the two of them running around, the coyote nipping at your dog's paws, just being playful...but that's not what's happening.

Ultimately the coyote will expand the area of play beyond the yard and just out of sight of your home. Your dog will then be ripped apart by the pack that's been waiting out there the whole time.

A very long time ago, when NE was being settled, farmers and settlers alike drove the wolves in the area to extinction. Years later, these coyotes moved in. They're an invasive species, they're smarter than your dog, they're very aggressive, and they often hunt in packs. There's a reason the state has a 6 month hunting season for them.
