Well I mean this isnt exactly an impossible thing for many creatures to be able to do. Some creatures are more intelligent than others. Some achieve that by living close to humans.

I mean back when I lived in another town we had problems with mice. So, we used mice traps. The ones that slams the wire down breaking whatever bone is caught there. But there was 1 mouse that started getting smart. Well we assumed that cause this was the situation:

We set traps everywhere, and then some time during the day you hear that snap. Then we will dispose of the mice and reset. But then later on when we heard the snap again, there was no mouse and no cheese (this was in the cupboard unter the sink). And this would go one for a few days. We assumed this mouse had learned that this thing kills. But we specifically set the trap so a very light touch could trigger it. I pushed the cheese into the small metal plate that activates it so there was no way he could pull it off

But anyways, thats how we fed a mouse for a few days.

Obviously the mouse wasnt a brainiac, but through observation some animals can learn
