No one is claiming it’s useless, it’s just not the same.

The point of this post is that you shouldn’t really make fun of Americans for being monolingual, I’m not really sure why it’s surprising for a country that dominated with one language do you only act we know one language. English is the language Franco of the world, if you travel there is a very high probability that people are going to know some English if not conversationally. The language that people tend to learn overseas is English versus other languages, for a lot of English speakers there’s really genuinely no reason to actively learn another language fluently because you probably are going to know a little bit of English.
