A critique of Brave Little State's segment on Airbnbs

I think I figured out Brave Little State in about two or three episodes. The producers are young, naïve, admittedly have not lived in Vermont very long, and are pretty far to the left on the political spectrum. The show is not objective journalism, it's entertainment. They figure out what angle they are going for, put forward evidence to support it, and pay token heed to the contrary. There's about 18 different cognitive heuristics and biases going on with the show; none of which help their objectivity. Every episode is a like a 101 social science term paper.

The factual reality of the housing situation in Vermont don't fit with the Brave Little State narrative or what their listeners want to hear.

Let's not forget that a lot of the road blocks to creating more housing have been put in place, and are kept in place by extremely NIMBY Vermonters - lot acreage requirements, demands to maintain rural character, ridiculously restrictive environmental restrictions, open space covenants, and so on. Of course house prices are going up when nobody will let anyone build affordable housing!
