Vermonter's headed to DC on 1/5/20

I hate Trump and everything he stands for (which, coincidently is himself, and only himself). I think supporting Trump is morally questionable, at best. I think everyone on this bus is wrongheaded, but ultimately that's what we're seeing: people on a bus. They're not doing anything wrong. We don't know that they stormed the capital building. We don't know that they broke laws.

People like Trump take punitive measures against people who don't agree with him. We are not people like Trump. If these people didn't break the law, there should be no negative consequences for them expressing their opinions.

Don't get me wrong, my knee-jerk reaction is to fuck these fucking fuckers (with thanks to George Carlin for that sentence), but that's how Trump and his supporters behave, and I don't want to be anything like them. To NOT behave like Trump, we have to do the hard thing: strive towards understanding and empathy and forgiveness.

People voted for Trump because our federal government sucks, and has for a long time. It was a tragic mistake, on the part of Trump's supporters, to believe a lying, narcissistic sociopath (Neville Chamberlain would sympathize), but let's not forget that we actually did start at the same place.
