The only thing I ask is that people judge me based on who I am. Not what someone else says (especially when it's based on things I've had nothing to do with).
The problem with all of these is the blanket way in which they're attributed to GG without ever bothering to ask us to explain our stated goals (not that they don't just ignore it when we try to tell them, but still).
Is it absolutely inconceivable that anyone here could actually believe what they say? Because that's the suggestion. That we don't care about any of our stated goals (no matter how many we achieve).
I've seen people do the same thing to black people. They won't judge an individual based on who they are, they'll just say "a lot of your kind seem to commit crimes."
They won't find out what Muslims believe, they'll just say "a lot of your kind are terrorists."
I fail to see how this is different. I haven't harassed anyone, but people keep telling me I'm a terrorist. If I say I'm a minority, they tell me I'm actually just another white guy sock puppet. Same old shit.
I'm not saying that everyone in GG is a good person. I'm sure there are some people that have done inappropriate things. I think it's also painfully obvious that some in anti-GG have done amazingly dickish things as well.
It's just how everything goes. Occupy Wall Street had some rapists. It doesn't make it a rapist movement. Their stated goals were their stated goals. Same for us.
Everyone knows how this works. Everyone has seen this dynamic 1000 times. Everyone has seen a group that has some bad individuals in it trying to take advantage of a situation (even worse in our case since we've already had a couple of trolling groups actively trying to make us look bad).
So, that goes back to wanting people to judge me for who I am. Don't blame me for stuff you know happens in any large gathering of people. Judge me based on what I believe and whether it conforms to the stated goals of my chosen group.
I'd ask your friend for the same courtesy. Ask her if she believes any of those things about you. Are you a harasser? Do you stalk women? Do you send anonymous threats?
Now if you aren't any of those things, why would you be involved in a group if the only thing they do is harass women?
Bonus Question for her : Why are so many women involved in a group designed solely to harass women out of the industry?
