Dad's Response to 19 year old girl can't prove her American Citizenship

This is a post from the mom's blog which was originally posted shortly before Alecia left. The mom recently deleted it, so here it is archived: https://web.archive.org/web/20150211062035/http://thepenningtonpoint.com/2014/08/adult-kids-living-at-home/

In the post, the mom describes how they have 4, going on 5, adult children still living at home. You cannot tell me that 4-5 kids all stayed at home during their college years without their parents exerting inappropriate levels of pressure and control on them to do so. There's also this post, made just a month before the one above, where the mom says she's the only driver: http://thepenningtonpoint.com/2014/06/long-and-winding-road/. How do you have 4-5 adult kids, but the mother is the only driver?

The level of control the mom (and dad, it would appear) expects to exert over adult children is completely inappropriate - she even expects to dictate what time they will get up in the morning. From the archived link:

"For example, if we request they get up and be dressed by 7:00 in the morning and they don’t do it….what should happen? Basically, we give them adult sized consequences for these things. A week without the use of our car has been a consequence we used in the past. That wasn’t fun. We do give them a lot of privileges that we could take away if necessary. I mean, eating here is a privilege and so is having your own room. If you want that privilege then you have to show respect for our needs as a family and joyfully do what we ask unless we discuss it and all agree to something else."

I have plenty of experience with hyper-controlling, homeschooling parents, and the behavior these parents display is textbook abuse. It's no surprise whatsoever that their daughter left without warning - if she had given them warning, they would probably have taken steps to stop her.
