In Dublin with family for a vacation, family who know I’ve struggled but don’t know that I’m quitting/quit. One of the tourist things we did was (of course) the Guinness Storehouse tour, which includes a ~2oz sample and a voucher for a free pint/soda. I drank the sample to fit in / see what it actually tasted like from the source since I’ve never been a big fan of Guinness, but I used my voucher for their non-alcoholic beer they’d been advertising. It was actually pretty good and when we were at dinner later, the restaurant had a NA beer so I tried it as well. Less good. No cravings to drink more so far and I’d have no way to satisfy them anyways. From the searching I did I know this sub is divided on the issue but I find statements like “I don’t snort baking soda” and “non-alcoholic beer is for non-alcoholics” make me roll my eyes, especially the latter since it minimizes and erases the struggle that those who enjoy NA beer went through as if they weren’t “true” alcoholics. Anyways, I’m rambling but the fact that NA beer tastes better than I thought and doesn’t trigger my cravings has been a huge relief to me since I’m going to a music festival in November that takes place at a bunch of bars so having something I can drink and fit in with has made me all the more excited for the festival.
