Daily FI discussion thread - December 03, 2016

I woke up before the daily post this morning, I think. At least I didn't see it until a while after I got up. It popped up, empty, and was like, "Oh shit! I could post first!" And then realized I was awake at like 5 AM on a Saturday with nothing meaningful to discuss and was disappointed with myself.

Everyone at my company says about the company: "You're never going to get more than a cost of living increase. But hey, it's stable." Merit isn't really taken into too much consideration. I could bust balls for an "exceeds expectations" review, but that would probably be a 5% raise instead of a 3%. Or a 1% raise instead of nothing, which is apparently what happened the year before I started. Bonuses aren't merit based at all, they depend only on how the company is doing. I could do great work and get nothing because corporate missed their targets -- not even because the company is hemorrhaging, just because somebody on the board fucked up in setting goals and we only grew 3% instead of 6%.

It's easy work, and I am getting paid pretty well for it right now. I could coast for the next 10 - 15 years into FIRE. But I'm kind of bored here, so I'm probably going to jump ship.
