Delta mayor pushes for greater priority for rapid-transit expansion south of Fraser, incl. Canada Line to Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal

Let me open by saying I fully agree with your assessment of Jackson asking for something she knows she can't get is stupid, and the idea of a skytrain extension to south delta is stupid. I think it's obvious to anybody with two brain cells to rub together that a skytrain extension is a non-starter, the density simply isn't there, places where rapid transit spending would be far more economical in terms of dollars spent per rider don't have skytrain yet. This would be the ultimate white elephant.

The Bridge is not there for the benefit of South Delta, the bridge is there to facilitate the expansion of Deltaport and expanding Canadian Trade with nations on the Pacific Ocean by allowing greater commercial traffic which is slated to MASSIVELY expand. That and it's the biggest traffic bottleneck in the province and seismically unsafe. That bridge is there because the province is going to massively increase trucks in the region. If you looked at how many minutes commuters would save by building the broadway skytrain extension vs building that bridge, it wasn't even close, mostly because that bridge is going to see a fraction of the commuter usage.

You also have to understand how repeatedly the BC Liberals have fucked this riding over and over and over and over. There is a reason why it's run by an independant provincially, the region is fairly right wing but loathes the liberal. From cutting the emergency room, to the power lines they put up after buying out all the houses on the right of way when burying them would have cost the same as the buyout and been much better for the town (there's no deep reason for the liberals logic here, they made a decision and they were gonna stick with it by gum), to the massively unpopular port expansion. I think people are seeing this bridge and the SFPR as sweetheart deals to win over a riding, they have a lot more to do with the BC Liberals vision of a deltaport expansion.
