The Demise of /r/investing

Agreed. People vomit out whatever they heard that day on the television.

Sadly, this comment could be used to describe nearly all of Reddit these days. I first came here 8 years ago, (quite naively using my real name as a user name), and enjoyed spirited conversations about a range of topics from politics and economics, to religion and technology, to PC gaming and vegetarian cooking. Those days are clearly gone now from Reddit, and to be completely honest I sincerely doubt that any forum on the web can avoid the righteous indignation, and aggressive apathy, that abounds everywhere.

As far as /r/investing goes I find that it's demise has forced me to reengage with my friends, and co-workers, about their investing strategies and actually spend time reading actual investment portfolios, and gaspactually spend time investigating future investments. I guess in the end "social media" will end up having a related but unintended consequence, I will end up being more social, just without the media.
