Did anyone think Daniel Day Lewis's romantic interest in Phantom Thread was a bit too plain looking?

I can totally see Alma and Woodcock having a relationship, if they had time to intermingle like in a workplace setting, were friends in grade school or something like in The Devil Wears Prada, where Alma would be his new assistant after having a sequence of failure hot girl assistants and Day Lewis plays the male CEO magazine editor. Then they slowly develop feelings for each other as she proves that despite being not as attractive as his past assistants, she has the charisma and work ethic to do the job better than anyone else.

But in the Phantom Thread it was like an insta-love, he literally saw her bump into a table doing the clumsy waitress routine and immediately wanted to take her to dinner and make her his muse and model. It was like he saw Aphrodite or something. Lets not kid around ok, Vikki Krieps is an exceptional actress but she's not exactly love and beauty incarnate. There are plenty of women her age or younger that have more prestige and sex appeal.

Maybe to Woodcock she was though? But was this ever addressed in canon? Was it ever explicitly said although she didn't have a perfect body and face that something about her just resonated with him? Am I missing some part of the plot?
