Why did Britain go to war with Germany in WWI, and why did Britain want to protect Belgium so much?

Well someone will for sure give longer and better answear, but basic thing is - Britain didnt want German dominance in continental Europe. Germany already started building (before 1914) a strong military fleat, and if Germany won in ww1 Britain would be in very bar possition - German dominance in Europe, now they have everything to even needed to build stronger fleat and put challange to british navy dominance, Germany now have new colonies (prblbly from France) etc etc... You get the point, Britain was (like all countries back than) trying to preserve balance in Europe that was established after fall of Napoleon... Now good question is why Britain didnt go in alliance with Germany and defeat they "1000 year old enemy" France - part of answear is in what i already stated but im sure someone will give more details.
