Did you know Medical Doctors are stupid, that you could do their job, and that they use the internet for solutions..? Why not?

This is asinine. Or a straight up troll.

Just about every modern occupation involves some level of internet usage. Why?

Because there's no way in hell any person can memorize every last bit of information involved in their occupation.

You want to know why else?

Because there's a difference between searching for confirmation or corroboration and searching for explanation.

Your doctor popping open an internet search isn't an admission of incompetence. This is your doctor giving you the due process and diligence of strengthening their suspicions rather than just immediately ordering possibly-expensive tests or straight up misdiagnosing you.

And you want to know what doctors did before the internet era? They hit the books. And talked with other medical professionals in person.

So why couldn't a lay person do the same? Because half a million illnesses share plenty of commonalities. The difference between having one illness and another might very well be absurdly subtle. A doctor has the expertise to traverse such murky waters. You don't.

You know why we joke around about going to WebMD for a sniffle and learning you have cancer? Because the lay person isn't experienced enough to properly interpret their symptoms.
