There is a certain cognitive dissonance inherent to being both a Catholic and a Democrat in the US, yet the majority of Catholics do it anyway, and have for literal centuries. Granted, back in the 1800s it was a very different story. But still, there have never been more Catholic Republicans than Catholic Democrats, and Biden swung the group bigly towards him DESPITE his losses with Latinos!

It's strange because in many other countries, still to this day Catholicism is heavily associated with the left (even amongst the clergy) whereas the US Bishops are mostly right-wingers preaching to a laity that largely ignores them. Meanwhile there are other countries where the Church unquestionably represents the Right and the Establishment and all that comes with it.

For a Church with a name that means "universal," man does it ever get complicated when you have over a billion followers around the globe of many ridiculously diverse backgrounds finding themselves in insanely different situations and are members of the Church for totally different reasons. It's honestly impressive it's as cohesive as it is, really.
