[Discussion] With Diablo II release approaching, I’m curious to hear your opinions. Is Blizzard a company you’re willing to support, or have they stepped too far?

That whole argument relies on specious reasoning. You can always justify your bad actions since you’re just one individual with limited influence.

Why not idle your car for 20 minutes to warm it up? Why not take two long, hot showers every day? Why not eat a ton of meat with every meal? Why not use plastic silverware and straws multiple times a day? You’re just one person - you’re not going to make a difference!

The problem is that the population is made up of individuals. This excuse is a way of deflecting personal responsibility. It’s similar to the Bystander Effect.

The bottom line is that financially supporting Blizzard at this point is a moral choice. You could argue that the company’s misbehavior isn’t that bad and that you should feel free to buy their games if you want. That’s fine to argue (I won’t take a position there), but saying the point is moot since you’re just one person is extremely myopic.

I won’t even address the point about selling stock, which is absurdly out of touch and, again, an excuse to avoid dealing with the issue.

Also, “keep it in the conversation” is ridiculous when you’re already buying the games. It’s like when you post on Twitter about how evil Chick-Fil-A is for supporting conversion therapy while you snarf down your CFA sandwich. At least admit the hypocrisy and go about your day understanding you have no moral principles.

And I’m sure tons of people will latch onto the argument, like you have, because it’s an easy answer. “Do whatever you like - it doesn’t matter anyways!” Give me a break
