Disney to buy 20th Century Fox, and with it the distribution rights for ep. I-VI

Yeah these DVD's that included the original theatrical releases were a lower resolution.

George never wanted to release any Star Wars movies on DVD/digital. Episode 1 was only available on VHS despite demand. Episode 1 DVDs eventually came (then ep 4/5/6) but I cannot find the article where George rationalized why DVD would never happen (might have been DVD hacking worries and not being able to sell the movie again later if people can get it free).

I dont know if holding off on selling higher res versions of the original saga theatrical versions was part of any business strategy of George's... as time goes buy, fewer people will care to own them. So either the copies are destroyed, or Disney now has them and we will see them unload a 4k+ version box set or something coming soon (?).
