DJ Khaled sued for stealing beat for "I Got The Keys"

you really put modern digital music on a pedestal. its really not that fancy. the beat itself is not that fancy. the snares and kick are samples, the 808s are probably samples, you say the melody wasnt possible then due to limitations of digital software but theres also such things as analog synths that have been doing this shit for years that you can just record put it into protools or whatever the hell you want. Where do you think the "algorithms" for digital synths came from??? Why do any decent studios still use analog instruments, systems, and hardware?? because its still better even today.

i get it. you make beats, you take pride in it, you're passionate about it, and thats awesome and great but be realistic.

didn't copyright in this process or publish it so impossible to prove, if it's just a simple a scale progression IMO

this is not how copyright works. You do not have to publish or put out anything to prove copyright. You basically "copyright" something when it comes from an idea into a physical or realized form. If he has this cd that he gave khaled in 08 or any other form where he can prove he created the music BEFORE khaled also had the idea, he can claim copyright. You dont have to file or do any publishing to prove you had an idea first as long you can prove you had the idea first in any public or private way.

the main melody could have been sequenced in one way or another however, and if that's true than dude is mad he played a melody on a synth, recorded and sent it to Khaled

even if the melody is simple(and shit) he can still claim copyright if he has proof he made it and it was used without his permission. The beat does not have to be 100% the same ( its obviously not because the drum pattern is obviously modern day ) to claim copyright if enough of the same material was used. If the sample, or even the melody alone, is the same he can claim copyright.
