Does anyone else lose their sense of self when in the Navy?

I feel you. That's why I got out. Not saying I regret it, but if you plan on moving back to your hometown keep in mind: Coming home on leave for a couple weeks per year is a whole lot different than living there all the time. Don't underestimate how your behavior and worldview has changed as a result of your time serving. Consider how that will affect rejoining a community that probably doesn't have the unique skills and experiences you do. And there are also a lot of civilian jobs that can make you feel exactly as you described feeling when you go to work now. However the good thing about those is being able to quit without legal ramifications.
