Dolphin 5.0 is here, and it's a massive sweeping fix over many of the biggest issues of v4. You basically don't have to own a Wii or GameCube anymore.

I might not have all the facts right, but I remember at some point like a year or two ago that a few Dolphin devs decided to show up on the PCSX2 hub and submit some pull requests to clean the code up a bit (like get rid of the insane amount of macros that make code unreadable) and add support for newer hardware and got told to fuck off.

I don't know if they were right or wrong, if the PCSX2 devs were really set in their ways, or if the Dolphin devs had an ego because of their "superior" emulator, I just remember there being a spat between the two groups that couldve helped each other. In the end, it definitely did not improve PS2 emulation for the better.

Thinking about it, I think one of the major points of contention was PCSX2'S huge amount of hacks to get games working, and while all emulators begins like that, they werent interested in more hardware checks and more into getting more even hacks.

This is all based on memory of events that happened years ago, but it's still a moment that if it had gone differently, might be in a different position nowdays. The PS2 team might have different devs or mindset by this point. The only name I remember was a guy named Pseudonym i think? He wasn't particularly friendly to newcomers.
