Back in 2009? I was making ~$400k/yr. (internet marketing) (I had a few "issues" with drugs...not "issues" per say, I just like to get my load on).
So back in 2009 I walked into the local BMW dealer to pay cash for an M5. One of my buddies was a sales rep there and he hooked me up with a killer deal on a 1 year old CPO car.
I was dressed in shitty t-shirt, hoodie, jeans I bought from Nordstroms Rack (the cheap ones) and flip flops. Basically looking like a fucking bum. Why? Because I like being comfortable and wearing fancy clothes is not comfortable. Also, because I hail from the internet and this is how my people dress. Look at any given "internet millionaire" and that's my wardrobe in a nutshell.
Was being given a dirty look by some of the patrons there as I perused the cars.
Long story short apparently there was a doctor there buying a new car and he was sitting in the next booth to me talking to another service adviser. Of course, the asshole was giving me a dirty look (this is Southern California btw). Long story even longer, as I was filling out the paperwork for my income, the dealer made it a point to say loud as fuck (on purpose because I think he saw that asshole giving me a dirty look):
"Wow, you make more money per year than most doctors I have seen".
I gave that asshole in the booth next to me the biggest shit eating smirk I could muster up as I walked by him after that. It felt good.
So the takeaway from this post is one of a few things here:
Don't be a dick to the guy dressed like a bum, he just might make twice the amount of money you make in your holier-than-thou job.
