Well, it’s often not the flu itself that kills, but the secondary infections that the weakened immune system can’t fight because it’s still fighting the flu that kills you, so I guess him saying there weren’t any secondary infections and therefore not prescribing an antibiotic for something the kid doesn’t need was “woke” (really it was just the right thing to do, considering overprescribing antibiotics are why we have superbugs like MRSA now).

Now the doctor probably didn’t say the flu wasn’t something to take seriously, but it’s more likely that the kid was already on the other side of the worst part of it and the mom was probably told to keep an eye on the mucus (clear is fine, colored or opaque could be an infection) and keep an eye on any fever. Like any responsible doctor would say. The mom probably just heard what she wanted to hear and interpreted it as validation for her beliefs.
