Edmonton Rush need more fans!!!

I've never been to a Rush game, and though I've heard many times that it's an exciting, fast-paced, hard game, I just have no desire to go watch it. It's not for lack of marketing. I'm fully aware of the Rush, and have been since they arrived in the city.

I don't know. I live in the deep southeast, so having to drive to Century Park, pay for parking, pay for the LRT, pay for a ticket to the game, pay for overpriced food, then wait with other people for the LRT back home...it just doesn't speak to me. Not for the Rush anyway.

I hate to say this, but I think Edmonton has a real issue with sports teams that aren't the Oilers or Esks. It's almost as if we don't want to support teams that won't bring us national or international acclaim.

We're so accustomed to champion teams that any team that isn't a champion we ignore. I know that the Oilers and the Esks haven't won anything in a looong while, but they still did at one point, so they're golden to us.

"The Rush? FC Edmonton? Whatever team plays out of John Ducey? Don't you know that Edmonton is for champion sports teams? What have you done for us lately?"

That's my theory on why these teams eventually leave Edmonton, which is a shame, because I'm sure the Rush or FC Edmonton games are exciting to go to.

It's almost as if we've been spoiled by the Oilers or Esks. Like we have this incredibly high standard that we unfairly measure other sports teams by. And it is unfair. The Oilers haven't won a cup in 25 years now; it's been 10 years for the Esks now.

Anyway, if you've gone this far, thanks for reading. Please don't take my opinion as the gospel for all Edmontonians. I'm sure they have their reasons for not going to the Rush.
