Equal pay for equal work: Have you ever been paid more or less than a female co-worker?A

I've actually had instances where I get paid less for the same work.

At one factory, I started through a temp agency, and then the company did a hire off the street, but refused to even consider any current temps for the spots. A number of women (some men) started over a month after me and were making more on their first day than I was though I worked there longer.

My current situation was similar, though management corrected that pretty fast.

I had another position where I made the same hourly rate on a production floor at a factory, but I produced almost three times as much product as my female coworkers (there were three of us on the same machine and I made between 1500-1800 parts a day and the usually made around 600. One of them might make it to 700 some nights, but only if the other's machine when down and she helped. More often than not they'd get under 600.

I realize we made the same hourly wage, so 'equal pay'? But the work was not equal. I was making the company FAR more money than they were.

The thing is, I've NEVER worked in a position where a woman with the same job, same qualifications, and same level of experience made less. Ever.

There is legislation that ensures equal pay for equal work.
