Europe: When you visited the US, what did you think of the people?

Varied between seeming very nice and friendly (to the point I found it rather uncomfortable, to be honest) to incredibly fake and insincere. Some of that was culture clash obviously as I genuinely couldn't imagine a British person saying some of the stuff I heard without sarcasm.

Generally felt the ones I spoke to were somewhat ignorant about the rest of the world and that feeling was echoed by the other non-American students I spoke with (including the Canadians oddly) as well as my Uncle and some of his friends who'd been living there for like 20 years. One particular example that gobsmacked me was one woman thought Julius Caeser was a fictional character but was otherwise very intelligent. I want to be clear that I'm not saying I thought Americans were dumb, just a surprising amount of ignorance in my opinion.

Very easy to talk to and more cheerful than I'm used to as well for the most part. I don't think my sense of humour was in line with most of the American I spoke to though.
