External GPU Question

ent downside of external GPU’s. External GPU’s, and their enclosures, come with some downsides. The largest being the connection to and from the laptop. Due to the limits on data transfer over usb-c you’ll never be getting the full power of your external GPU. If you use your laptops screen it gets even worse.

  1. Price. When I looked into it the best value/working enclosure was about 300$. This is well into a budget of a pretty good desktop.

My recommendation is what I’ve now transitioned to. Build a desktop and buy a meh laptop for classes. I bought a used Lenovo Yoga which I could use as a tablet or a laptop and it’s served me amazingly well. At the same time I built a pretty good desktop and when I go home for extended periods I just pack up the desktop, it’s not that much of a pain. This gives you the best of both worlds in that you get to have all the power of a desktop but also have a lightweight laptop for on the go.

Thank you so much!!!
