Fart blamed for fire during surgery; patient seriously burned:The Asahi Shimbun

Sure, the fart is to blame. They were doing laser surgery on her cervix, using an apparently highly flammable surgical drape, and had made no allowance for any incidental intestinal gas to be ventilated away from the surgical site.

Yep, patient's fault.

In a report released by the hospital on Oct. 28, a committee of outside experts who looked into the case said no flammable materials were in the operation room at the time of the surgery.

And then right after that:

"When the patient’s intestinal gas leaked into the space of the operation (room), it ignited with the irradiation of the laser, and the burning spread, eventually reaching the surgical drape and causing the fire," the report said.

So the same report states that there were no flammable materials in the room, then proceeds to report all the materials that caught fire. I'm surprised it doesn't report that all the materials had been towed outside of the environment.
