FBI catches Air Force senior Officer during underage sex sting operation

Close, but not quite.

People in a position of trust who violate that trust make a bigger story. Military officers take an oath that basically says "I am here to execute the Commander-in-Chief's orders." They act on authority of the President. Disobeying a lawful order given by a superior commissioned officer is equal to disobeying a lawful order from the President himself.

Military officers have special authority under the UCMJ to perform arrests, hold court marials, etc. As a Lt Col this guy absolutely was of sufficient rank to be a squadron commander and dispense UCMJ punishment. We trusted him to do so on good faith and to be accurate and fair. We trusted him to give lawful orders to his subordinates to achieve whatever the mission is for his military unit. He violated that trust.

Priests, teachers, police, et al are all professions where we place trust in people and are especially angry when they commit crimes in violation of that trust.
