I feel like most people who are upset with the graphics on the BTB maps are just being written off as casuals too often.

I really can't sit hear and read this nonsense anymore. I hate 343i more than any other game developer on the whole Earth. Let's get that out of the way first. But if you can't admit that this is most varied and successful forge palette of all time, you are seriously deluded. Especially when I see people negatively compare these Forge maps to Reach forge maps, I slip deeper and deeper into madness. Clearly, the gulf in textural detail has never been wider between forge maps and dev maps, but to suggest that they are "disgusting" or "the ugliest things [you've] ever seen" is unbelievably stupid. People seem to equate grainy textures with graphical quality, as if artificial detail is the only valuable parameter. EVERY SINGLE Reach map was a pile of grainy, shiny gray blocks. No color. No variation in shape. No dynamic lighting. I've seen people claiming that the Halo 5 forge palette has literally no textures, and even if that idiotic claim were true, we STILL miraculously have the best looking palette we've ever had. Every single piece has a procedural shader which interacts with the light in a particular way. While this method of texturing is clearly not the same as the weathered, hand-painted textures in the dev maps, it is much cleaner, realistic, and reminiscent of past Halo dev maps. Personally, I'd prefer if the dev maps looked closer to the forge maps, because I'm tired of the overuse of specularity, hyper gloss textures, and head-splitting light sources that negatively impact the playability of every 343i map ever produced. It helps that despite the presence of BR starts on Deadlock and the lack of Warthogs on Guillotine, these are some of the best maps in the entire game, spawns excluded. I'm going to lose my mind if this backlash is enough to change the palette and 343i decides ONCE AGAIN to ruin performance in the name of over-the-top visuals. I finally feel like I'm playing pre-343 maps again, and I couldn't be happier.
