the few hours lying in bed before I go to sleep is the best part of my day

Wow, I'd heard of mindfulness before but I'd never practised it or looked into it. I went check it out and yes, it does sound a lot like what I do!!

But no, I just appreciate my bed because I know what it's like having to sleep on the floor without a mattress or a pillow. I enjoy and appreciate the 'me' time I have at night because I know what it's like to spend years being afraid of being in bed and falling asleep. And I make conscious efforts now to be aware of what I'm doing and feeling because that's the only way I've found to truly appreciate the things I have.

Like yesterday I treated myself to a chocolate and vanilla almond icecream, I didn't just eat it, I noticed how crunchy the chocolate bits were, how vanillay and sweet the cream was, how much I enjoyed each lick, how happy it was making me.

And the same with the bed, I focus on enjoying how it feels like I'm floating, how the sheets feels against my skin, how cloud-like fluffy my pillow is, the street is quiet and there are no noises, so it's like my 'me' time when I don't have to interact with others, I can be by myself, in peace and quiet, no people no noises, just me floating in my bed, sometimes I put a small pillow under my knees and feel my legs relax. I just focus on everything because it's my way of valuing and appreciating the big little things I am able to experience.

I had an absolutely shitty life growing up so hat helps me appreciate I'm here now and not back there. I'm appreciative and grateful for anything I have, from my winter coat to my memory foam pillow. I also had major surgery and was in a wheelchair for months, so every single day of my life I appreciate my legs and all the sensations related to them.

Anyway, I'm definitely going to check out mindfulnes because it sounds like something I'd enjoy doing plus all I'm reading so far arfe good things about it! And maybe the man who invented mindfulness is just like me? It has to come from somewhere!
