Figuring out the pattern of the useless circular display on my watch

"Hey Bob, I'm going to put this display on this watch just to screw with people" "HAHAHA, Frank, you're crazy!"

Got it at Walmart last night. I wanted to get an inexpensive watch. The had some in locked display cases. I'm there, those would cost too much. See these which weren't in cases. I go, hey, I didn't know Coleman made watches. These look kinda neat. Their camping stuff is top notch so these watches must be extra good.

Oh those over here with cartoon characters are for kids but I guess these other more normal ones without the cartoon characters are for adults. Doesn't say anything on the outside of the box if it's for kids.

I'm looking at it, I'm thinking.. what's this circle part for? Never saw that before on a watch. Must be some new technology. Looks pretty snazzy! I guess I'll figure it out when I get home and look at the instructions. Maybe it's like a digital compass or something for when you're hiking!

Take a look at the expensive watches in the display cases. Those are huge, that'd be a hassle on your wrist. Those are excessive in size. This isn't trucks here where bigger is better. Cost more too.

Hey, there's one of those Casio calculator ones. Cost a bit more but wristband is bad plastic. That would get sweaty and be irritating. If I find I need to calculate things I can it at a later date. So I'll get one of those smaller Coleman types.

Go to the self checkout. After I pay, no receipt comes out. I need that or odds are, could get hassled at the door. I've been asked before. One time wheeling a cart with only two 12 packs of bottled water. Receipt was sticking out my hand as I'm pushing the cart. But you guessed it, she wanted to closely inspect it. Was not gonna risk it with this watch when I actually don't have a receipt.

I call the self checkout attendant over. She opens up the receipt box. Wasn't empty but jammed. Naturally, she has to call somebody on the air phone. We got a loser here in aisle 6 and everybody around looks at you.

So what do I do now.. I look over at the magazines. I don't grab one to read because somebody might come over any minute. Starting to take a while though now. People at the other self checkouts would glance at me like what's up with this weirdo standing around. 10 minutes later some other cashier supervisor lady comes over.

Then I say, I need a receipt or could get questioned at the door. She says, oh I'll just walk with you there. Going by the normal express checkout lanes and lined-up people are looking at me and her. They're thinking I'm being "escorted" out because I got arrested for shoplifting.

Like wow, already, over this watch. I'm used to getting the runaround though with anything I do. It doesn't phase me anymore. I don't let it put me in a bad mood or every day would get spoiled.

Get home, couldn't wait to check out the paper instructions. Didn't say a peep about this circular area. I'm looking at it, trying to figure out what's going on. Something was odd with the pattern. What's it indicating!!? Figured out the rest of everything on it. Brushed it off, figure ah, you know made in China, these instructions have bad English lots of the time.

I'm wondering, hey does this beep every hour? Couldn't see a little bell icon like most watches. I figure out to indicate hourly chime was on, all the days of the week would be lit. That was in some sub menu by clicking combinations of multiple buttons.

Was used to basic watch button settings from this other watch I had for a while. Back then I wanted a calculator watch. Was looking at them and they only had this white and soft orange one. Later find out it was a girls watch. Bad plastic wristband too, so just kept it in my pocket. I'm not going around with no girls watch. Was handy when you're downstairs doing the laundry and would know when to go back down. Otherwise I don't use a watch.

Years later, the battery died. Make the trip to get the same type. Put it in and something was messed up in the watch and new battery didn't work. Maybe it was dead, date was good. Just threw the whole thing out. When doing laundry I use my little bedside clock that fits in my pocket.

Gotta get a watch though for this new job I'm starting tonight. You have to punch in only at the exact time you're supposed to start and finish. A few minutes earlier or later and it'll decline! Then you'd have to call over a supervisor to over-ride it.

Had everything figured out with the buttons, modes and all that. Push combinations to get to things.

Go to put it on, damn what's up with this velcro strap end just barely reaching the soft part. Meanwhile it has a fair bit of room with the sticky side that doesn't stick against itself.

I have a box of adhesive velcro. Cut some of the soft kind and stick the glue part against itself. Now the watch closes good. See, ya gotta work around these types of problems so you lose less in life. Now it's a good watch.

I'm there, hey I'll look it up online to see if I can find out what that circle area does in the display. Maybe ya gotta push combinations of buttons to get to sub menus to activate it.

Check the Walmart site. They had Coleman watches, but not mine. Look around online, couldn't find it. Later was lucky to see this page with the same type.

I'm there.. oh so this is a kids watch! haha.. No wonder the strap didn't have much room to close. Doesn't look like a kid's watch though, right?

Can't find anything online about the circle area in the display but see this guy wondering the same thing about his other brand of watch:

This guy's all puzzled with his. A guy replies, it's just an animation. It's like, for what? To make it look like it's a more expensive watch where the circle does stuff?

Then I see this, a Coleman watch where the circle actually indicates things.

ALM-2, ALM-1, TIMER.

Sometimes products use the same model in cheaper types that wouldn't have the expensive features. But that was a different style.

My watch, they have this useless circle area with no purpose. If you look at it, the last two days of the week have less area because of it. No hourly chime bell icon anywhere, but they're adding this useless circle feature. If you took that out, the time could probably be larger.

I could picture young kids trying to figure out this watch. They'd probably think it was cool but never could figure out all the settings.
