Ghostbusters is one of those franchises that shouldn't be messed with or flipped with a reboot. If you dare to try and add to a franchise or reboot it you better do it right and have the right person behind it to do it.

Harry Potter and Star Trek are two other franchises I can think of that you need to be really careful with adding more movies or rebooting.

Harry Potter

You can try and reboot, but it will always be a comparison to the original based on how close this franchise is to that fan base. You can add to the franchise, which they are doing now but under the "Wizarding World" tag which makes sense.

There will be no issues with this except if someone does a fresh reboot which will hopefully never happen.

Star Trek

I think was done correctly. Find a dedicated director with a proven track record of success and doing it right with attention to detail for that franchise. This Reboot worked it changed slightly, but it didn't gender change the whole cast. Its just something that would be really tough to tweek with an entire franchise.

With the Star Trek reboots it was done right with the correct person with the right passion around the project. The drive to make a good movie not driven by hype and the history of a franchise to push a successful movie worked.

it just happened to be a success and it involved a big movie franchise as a bonus.

This new Reboot of Ghostbusters is brought to you by the director of "Bridesmaids", "The Heat" and "Spy".

I have a feeling they are going to bank on two things to make this a success. 27 years since a new movie and a dedicated fan base to try and make this a success.

This is not going to work. Plus I can guarantee there will be at least two more moves made after this one.
