I'm from Aligarh, UP and I personally know this girl and her story.
My friend lives in the flat opposite to her's and has known her from a long time.
I'm not going to defame a dead person but what the media has totally missed on reporting is that this girl is a known prostitute - yes, a prostitute - in and around her locality - a lot of AMU students themselves are well aware of this fact too.
She got divorced long ago and ever since then she was living alone in this flat while studying at AMU - she finished her studies in AMU in 2006 I think and has still been living alone in this particular flat.
My friend, almost everyone who lives in the apartment block where she lived, and my own self have seen her customers come and go at all hours - usually late into the night and sometimes openly carrying alcohol with them and paying her just outside her door.
The complaint she filed against a "local businessman" is actually a guy who works the counter at a local restaurant called Golden Restaurant - he was a regular client of her's and me and my friend would regularly see his Honda City parked outside her flat.
Right after his Honda City would leave we would see another car show up an hour or two later and leave again - sometimes with not one but two or three guys inside it.
Here is the most important part:
My friend claims the time he last saw her alive, he saw that same particular car in which 3 to 4 guys used to visit her - and one of the 3 guys came on a bike that day - he saw him hanging outside her flat at around 1.30 AM and was looking around nervously and behaving very oddly with a scared expression on his face.
He even looked up at my friend watching him and quickly looked away and zipped away on his bike soon after.
Another big clue was that the door to her flat had been LOCKED from the outside with a typical Indian padlock - the police simply forced open this padlock without bothering to take any kind of forensic evidence such as fingerprints from this padlock - which was obviously put in place by the perpetrator.
Another detail not mentioned is that her ATM card was also stolen and all of the cash had been withdrawn from her bank account using this ATM card. Why has this big piece of information not made it to the media when everyone in the locality is aware?
Also note this: When she "withdrew the rape allegation" she made against that local businessman / restaurant guy - what actually happened was as far as my friend knows that she was extorting him for money and he paid up in front of a sub-inspector who all mutually agreed to close the case when he agreed to pay her.
She has also accused a professor at AMU long ago of molestation but I'm not sure what happened to that case.
I'm an atheist before anyone thinks I'm a Muslim guy trying to divert public opinion or something - what I have written above is true to the best of my knowledge.
I wouldn't defame a dead person but the truth is she was a well known prostitute in her locality - the police do have some idea of her background and past cases and I strongly suspect the police is simply trying to close this case as fast as possible.
Why would they not even bother to get fingerprints checked on that pad lock for example?
My friend is an asshole in that he refuses to go to the police station and let them know what he knows because he fears that he will be caught up in court and "useless trouble" etc. I don't know how can I make up his mind but oh well, here's me doing my part by letting r/India know.
