Forum: No benefits to house officers' 30-hour shifts

I am fully aware of the salary of a HO all the way up to reg level including call. Consultant salary is slightly more opaque because there are many other different components. Other than that I am struggling to comprehend what you are trying to imply. Of course there will be a discrepancy in public vs private rates. But you also need to bear in mind the cost to run a clinic, hire your own staff and also manage your own inventory. Some of these goes beyond the “doctoring” of which a good handful of doctor doesn’t want to involve themselves in. There’s also some who are passionate about research and teaching, hence choose to stay in restructured government hospitals. To some of these doctors, they are at a point where they are comfortable and laws of diminishing returns apply very much to them.
