Fox News guest: 'Many women' falsely claim rape after having 'what's known as regret sex'

I think the blowback on false rape claims is more about the court of public opinion than the frequency of false claims.

Our society has shifted dramatically to vilifying the accused the moment the story hits the public domain. People let themselves be ruled by emotion and of more consequence in the long term at least by confirmation bias.

In the case of rape claims, a media story will accurately use the terms alleged, accused, etc to indicate that everything is just being investigated. However that doesn't stop people from going batshit crazy and start leaving comments about ripping the man's junk off and other such nonsense.

So the issue is really that people feel that some people are crapping all over our innocent until proven guilty ideal as well as harkening back to gruesome points in the past, like the salem witch trials.

So people latch onto the idea of false rape claims. Because it shows how quickly and completely someone's life is ruined and over because of a "claim" before any legal verdict is reached. It's pointing out the destructive power of the court of public opinion.

The same thing happens in other instances too. Michael Brown is a prime example. The public opinion was so strong that he was wrongfully killed that when the invistigation ruled it justified you create two narratives.

Narrative 1. The feds and cops are liars and killers. These people completely disbelieve the investigation because it goes against the narrative they already believe.

Narrative 2. The invistigation completely absolves this whole BLM issue. The cops were justified and people are making a fuss over nothing. This reinforces their narrative that everything is being blown out of proportion.

The truth is most likely in the middle. just like with the rape issue. Rape is serious and should be investigated. People should be willing to report it. BUT it is absolutely IMPERATIVE that the public stop vilifying the accused. Its causing an unnecessary blowback against the movement. Much in the same way that looters rioters are screwing up the protest and cause of the BLM movement.
