This game is incredibly rough.

I think it might just not be your type of game, judging on the rap of the loot and level design. It's practically Diablo. I'm no game designer but I get a feeling of satisfaction when I'm like "holy shit, look at this amazing drop" and then be considerably more powerful afterwards. Finding out so many ways to tweak your stats and keep your weapon level matched up to snuff got me invested into the numbers game; much easier than Borderlands where you wouldn't even know that different gun parts prefixes affect certain aspects and that you couldn't change them. Nioh has a better loot system.

The level design is filled with caves and temples because they're real places. This isn't some world after ancient, dragon-slaying lords die and people go insane, but it's literally just Japan. I expected a romp through Japan and I got it. If I expected a romp through the Nightmare of Mensis instead, then I would be disappointed like you are. If you wish to continue, I would say dial back a little. This game is pretty much made for Diablo and Japan history nerds. Almost every single character has a real life counterpart. The story you're apart of is an actual war. You won't face dragon gods or false kings, but Japanese demons and folklore instead. Everyone admits that there could have been literally hundreds more enemy designs though based on the folklore instead of the three dozen or so we got, so you get that point on variety.
