The Gamer Ghazette for May 22, 2015

GotW: I've never played the silent hill series, though I'm aware of they're interesting use of fog to mask the loading in the game and their multiple endings such as . saw the movie with my mom because she's a fan of horror films, and the scene involving pyramid head (you know what scene I'm talking about) grossed me out to the point I'm afraid to play the games.

OT: drumming. though I had to sell my drum set a couple years ago, I still have my sticks and drum on random objects or play drums through Logic or GarageBand. been a drummer since fifth grade, played in two bands (that had most of the same people) as well as being selected to play in the statewide jazz band three years in a row in high school. I absolutely miss having a set and hope to get to a point in my life where I can afford another. there's just a deep, supernatural catharsis to drumming for me. drumming was the only thing...the only thing I was good at. but...at least I always drummed for what I believed in.

PTW: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon. decided to take a break from the 3DS, and I'm not ready to finish DDS2 yet, so I started the followup to The Soulless Army.

and let me tell you, it's fantastic. they reworked the game after complaints about Soulless Army and it really shows. negotiations have returned and function just like all other SMT games, with the bonus that the demons you have in battle with you can help negotiate without having to have a skill slot taken up to do so. battle feels much more intuitive and controllable without the staleness that permeated very quickly in Army. a new feature for side quests was added, that being Case Files. so far, there hasn't been much for an interesting case file, but there seems to be a lot of them so I bet it will turn out well. sword fusion no longer requires a demon, and feels like it's worth a damn! you get access really early and there seems to be a lot of variety, with swords having special abilities and even different mega-attack styles such as battle axe or spear. and GOUTO IS BACK YAY!!!!

my only real complaint would have to be the cumbersome switching of demons outside of battle. like, it's at least a ten-second chore just to switch out a single demon when you're trying to figure out if you need to read someone's mind or ignite them.

other than that, I introduce my little bro to FFX over the weekend, which was kind of a big deal because he only plays AC and CoD-style games. he enjoyed it though he hated not being able to control the camera. and then I had him play some bioshock infinite which...ugh. no respect for exploration, he just rushed right to the objective every time and then wonders why he keeps dying so quickly. MAYBE IF YOU OPENED SOME OTHER DOORS YOU MIGHT GET TO UPGRADE YOUR SHIELD FOR ONCE!!!
