It's the "reformed nice guy" syndrome - they act with such deliberation and conscious intent behind every action, which kinda makes it creepier? Like for example, I had one guy telling me "I am a good ally and I love giving hugs but of course I won't if someone is uncomfortable" which on the surface seems fine, but then you realize that information was volunteered without any prompt and the way it's written makes me seem weird for not wanting a hug and who needs to advertise they don't hug people who don't want it? Like, that's the default, which all together makes it come across like ah ok, you're just following a script on how humans interact...
