Germany's Chancellor Merkel "firmly" rejects calls to change refugee policy despite recent terror attacks

Germany has a declining population problem similar to what Japan has. Theres different reasons for this but mostly a mix of modernization, innovation, greater choice of lifestyle, (as more women enter the workplace the desire to have 4-10 children decreases). Basically when two "western" people are marrying, they are creating between 1 and 1.5 children. The estimate is that by 2050 the population of Germany's native population (and the rest of europe) will decrease significantly which is bad for the economy. So to offset this, a strong immigration policy to bring in people from around the world who ARE procreating and have them enter the work force is needed.

This is not an unreasonable policy and given Europe's history of constant bloodshed, entering into a generation of true multiculturalism sounds nice.....Its hard to vote in a far right nationalist party if 60% of your population in 2080 are non-white. It is a major reason that the KKK in the united states isnt remotely relevant anymore.

The question i haven't heard answered is why, when we are entering another industrial revolution where massive portions of the labor force are made obsolete by AI/Automation, that cheap labor is so desperately necessary for the next generation. Population worldwide is exploding with projections out to 11 billion in our lifetimes.
